The Ministry of School Leadership

My next book is in the works!

In May of 2019, I attended a seminar at HomeWord in San JuanCapistrano, just 2 hours from my home. I was invited to participate in a Train the Trainers event for content curated by Dr. Jim Burns. My husband and I had attended HomeWord’s annual marriage retreat for a couple years, and my church was blessed with Jim’s parenting conference live. Jim sharing his content is his legacy. I felt so darn happy to know I would be able to share it. Having many blessings come my way, praying for “anything” that God would want me to do, I prayed that God would speak to me about what he wanted me to do next with this content in my life. I asked for discernment, ideas, and goals that would glorify him.
He told me to knock down the walls of:
Comfort
Isolation
Aloofness
Conceit
Fear
Anxiety
He told me to build up:
Courage
Joy
Vulnerability
Openness
Strength
Love
I asked him where I could use this content. Would it be used in speaking engagements? A website? A blog? All three? Do I build credibility with degrees and certifications and other accomplishments? (The answer is no. God showed me what that looks like with another attendee. It’s annoying to hear about it over and over. Thank you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!)
He told me:
Not to compare my beginning with someone else’s middle.
Focus on obeying him in the little things in my life that no one
sees.
He has a good reason for asking me to wait, even when circumstances don’t make sense in the moment. Speed doesn’t matter. Forward is forward.

After building a meager website and searching for speaking engagements that related directly to the training I attended, God gave me the title of this very book: The Ministry of School Leadership.
The Ministry of School Leadership is intended for believers charged with leading in their school setting. Whether you are a principal, dean, department chair, or part of general administration, I'll cover topics that affect leaders every day:
Service
Setting Boundaries
Prayer
Change Management
Criticism & Conflict
Personal & Professional Growth
Grace & Faith
Self-Care
Legacy
What if you’re not a Christian? Know that you are on my prayer card, dear reader! I know Christians that have made me second guess their salvation (and then my own, Ms. Judgmental!), but the good news is: Christians are sinners! Yes, that’s good news, because the one and only person who could do anything about it died on a tree for me and you and wiped away our sins. He lived a perfect life and lived among the outcasts, sick, widowed, and more to show that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life! Many Christians get this wrong and I pray that I live a life that glorifies him way more times than my failings.

I recently read in a devotion, a reminder that sticks with me each day I enter my school: “Besides You there is no way for me to conquer sin and besides You there is no good in the world. I want Your goodness to move into my heart and push out everything that tries to measure up with Your measureless love.”
