Today I am highlighting an organization that Jen Hatmaker introduced me to in her book,
7 Days of Christmas: The Season of Generosity. When I read about Kiva.org, I got online immediately and saw a large group of women working hard to provide for their families.
Here's how it works:
Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 in San Francisco, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. By crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved, they are improving the quality and cost of financial services, and addressing the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through Kiva's work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care.By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, you can be part of the solution and make a real difference in someone’s life. 100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans.
You can search by region or dollar amount needed. There isn't a guarantee on return, but who cares?! I love the idea of helping people reach their goal to get out of poverty. My heart explodes when I get an email that a project was funded and a return was made for the woman. Now that is girl power.
