Spring Book Review!
Lots of nonfiction, devotionals, and all were my favorite!
Moment Maker, by Christian singer/songwriter Carlos Whittaker. WOW! Among many of the highlights I made while reading, one of my favorites was: "All it takes is that moment of decision when you allow Christ to be the one who defines your ability, not you."
Breaking Busy, bu Alli Worthington. WOW! She starts her thesis by highlighting cell phones: they have a battery life. They will do everything they can until their battery runs out. They will then need to be recharged. What an analogy! We need to recharge ourselves and break the busy cycle. I personally don't like the word "busy" and don't want to associate how I am feeling with "busy."
Road Trip: A Modern Girl's Bible Study #3, by Jen Hatmaker. Jen is my spirit animal. She gets me. This MG series is terrific! It is split into 5 weeks, each week focusing on a particular topic. in this MG study, the 5 are themes necessary for a healthy spirit: Identity, Contentment, Faith, Discipleship, Contentment, and Service. I'm looking forward to reading #4 next.
Out of the Spin Cycle by Jen Hatmaker. Daily devotionals are my jam. However, I like to read devotionals straight through...no patience. This was easily one of my favorite devotionals for motherhood.
30 Days of Hope for Adoptive Parents by Jennifer Phillips. I loved this book so much! If you or someone you know is considering adoption, has adopted, or has lost in adoption, this is the book. It is THE book.
Cozy Life: Rediscover the Joy of the Simple Things Through the Danish Concept of Hygge
by Pia Edberg was a cute, short read. I liked it, but it didn't have anything you couldn't find on Pinterest.
A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23, by W. Phillip Keller. WOW! I loved this book so much that I took it to Glen Ivy to finish. The author was an actual shepherd so he knew David's life as a shepherd. He drew parallels from David's Psalm to how sheep and Jesus' followers are the same. I found myself stopping every so often, putting the book down, in amazement, saying, "I'm a sheep! I'm a sheep!"
Wait and See: Finding Peace in God's Pauses and Plans, by Wendy Pope was also a great book. Some of my favorite parts include:
"We have to allow God to do a work in us before He can do a work through us."
"Our soul is most satisfied and our life is most effective when we are where God wants us to be, doing what He wants us to do."
"We have to believe the God of possibilities rather than be overwhelmed by the impossibility of our situation."
