First off, Happy 2020!! I pray that your year is full of joy, grace, love, and growth!
My family and I rang in the new year on East coast time, while on a family vacation in San Diego.
If you are a mama of littles, then the words "family vacation" may sound like an oxymoron. We packed up our lives, and went 2 hours south, and did little else to "vacate" our regular lives. I knew a structured schedule would be necessary for two kids to be occupied, plus keeping us adults entertained. This meant regular Target trips, plus going to the movies, the trampoline park, and the zoo. I must've been out of my mind!
The phrase, "I need a vacation from my vacation"never felt so accurate!
In other news, the new year can mean resolutions for many. But for me, I've always enjoyed choosing a word for the year. This year, I found a fun word generator on Emily Ley's Simplified Instagram!
It was an easy, and super fun way to determine my word of the year. In past years, I've chosen what has been visibly in front of me, or inspired from a book I've loved.
Simplified also had Scripture related to each word. Here's mine:
The great thing about choosing a word for the year is that, similar to when you buy a white car and then you start seeing white cars everywhere, you will start seeing your word everywhere. From bloggers, emails, notices, letters, people, etc., the word will be so present!
One of my favorite things about a new year is a fresh set of online challenges. So far, I'm a part of 3!
1. Blogilates' Cassey Ho does monthly challenges, and January's is super fun. For #2020, she has a two pilates moves per day, 20 reps each. For your own calendar, go to www.blogilates.com.
2. My friend, Paige Clingenpeel, is the real deal. She is a mental health therapist for teens in the midwest, plus a Connect pastor at her home church, and she started a Read the Bible in a Year challenge on Facebook. She is up to over 1000 members! We are using the Chronological Bible, and posting what God is telling us, while also posting prayer requests and praise reports! The link to the chronological Bible can be found here.
3. I've loved books and blogs from Jessica N. Turner, and yesterday she reposted a book challenge for the year: #ReadYourBooks challenge is for reading 40 books you already own. And here I thought I was the only one with a huge TBR pile! I'm so excited for this one! For more info, visit her site www.themomcreative.com. I also love the yearly challenges on www.goodreads.com where you can track what you've read, what you're currently reading, and what you want to read.
So here I am ready to push myself in 2020 for wellness, health, relationship with God and his people, and my favorite hobby: reading. Sounds like a great year to me!
